You ruined the surprise by shouting.

[ Seriously, the punchline to sneaking up on someone is "stick a dagger in their side," not "shout nonsense." She puts him in her mental list of "idiots who seriously strain the working hypothesis that whoever brought us here assembled a team with relevant talents" and turns back to the problem of the buttons.

There's always a chance that pressing the buttons will release some sort of noxious gas, or blow up the wreck, or something of that nature. But she's fairly certain that the ship crashed during the same disaster that led to the pods deploying -- which means there probably wasn't time to booby-trap it or modify its original functions. And, in any case, they're all going to die if they have to stay on this planet too much longer. Short-term risks like pushing unidentifiable buttons are necessary for the long-term goal of surviving and leaving... although maybe she can dodge even the short-term risks by making this idiot do the potentially-dangerous button-pushing.

She shook her head as a sort of signal of conversational shift, and gestured at the chair and its array of controls. ]
