What: regrouping after the event

Well, the swarm is over and the queen has died. What are you doing now, friends?

Heading back to the boneyard to regroup? Staying at the queen's carcass to harvest meat and pearl things? Staying maybe to heal if you're banged up? Or maybe you're arguing with others over what to do.

[ he's quiet for a moment. should he be glad that obi-wan is alive, that luke was taught by him? or be bitter and sadden by the fact that there's no sign from either luke, padme or ahsoka that he is alive. ]

I'm glad you're here, Snips.

[ tentatively, he place a hand on ahsoka's shoulder. ]

[She looks at him for a moment then, and something seems to crumble in her resolve to maintain a veneer of Jedi-like stoicism. To hell with shoulder touching. Anakin is too important to her for that. She just hugs him.]

[ it's as unexpected as the first time he saw her again on this desert planet but his reaction is instant. anakin wraps an arm around her and breathes relief.

he's not just glad she is here - he misses her, so much that he can forget about being angry at her for leaving him and so terribly it hurts to have her by his side again. that he almost wonders if he should have left with her rather than stay in the order that lost his trust long before she left. his other arm brings her in fully, and he hugs her to fill that space she had left. ]

[Ahsoka doesn't let go for a while. Instead, she holds tight-- just lets herself be in the moment, lets herself enjoy the rare hug from the person who is the closest thing she has to family. Lets herself finally feel safe and protected by the presence of Anakin Skywalker once more, even though she knows neither of those things are true.

This place is as dangerous as any battle they've ever been in. And judging from Anakin's words, there's no guarantee at all that he isn't still dead, from her perspective. She has to savour this moment and every other while she still can.

A small part of her mind notices that she's no longer short enough to fit her head under his chin when they hug anymore. Instead she rests her head on his shoulder, to the side. When she finally speaks again, it's a little muffled-- she still doesn't bother to pull back.]

... You know ... we never did this enough. Before.

[ he almost laughs. would have laughed if he didn't remember what brought them here in the first place. he pulls back and face her with an open smile and tone that, on most days, the war has burned out of him. ]

You might have had some distance from Master Windu, but I can still feel his disapproval from here.

[A few months ago, Ahsoka might have said something rude about where Master Windu could stuff his disapproval. But it doesn't seem right now, when he's dead. And she wants to preserve that rare genuine smile, not bring him down. So she swallows that feeling and grins back.]

Well, no Master Windu here! So we can do hugs as often as you like.

[ his head bows, charmed by ahsoka's obvious exuberance. he can play oblivious and attribute it to both of their general unease around mace windu.

but the truth of it remains and that smile doesn't last. ]

If only hugs can get us from this place, save the galaxy. [ save him, his family. blast, he should have hugged his son. ]

Ahsoka... Can you sense Luke?

[ That gives Ahsoka pause. She steps back a moment, considering him. Considering what to say. Finally--]

... No. I can't. ... I can't sense a number of people we started out with.

He said he grew up on Tatooine.

[ his paused. and didn't know why until he realize he had always imagine his children with padmé would be raised on naboo, surrounded by water instead of sand ]

He knows better than to wander out alone.

[Ahsoka nods.]

I don't think he wandered off alone either. This is a pattern, not a series of unconnected coincidences. Something's happening to the people in our group.

[ he looks distant, distracted. but finally, he focuses back on her ] We need to keep better track of ourselves and our resources.

I'm going to look for Luke. [ he push himself to. no matter what he finds, he owes his wife at least that effort ] Wide perimeter search but I'll be back in an hour. If I don't know, you know how to find me. [ his hand brush against ahsoka's shoulder. a sign of trust he hasn't given up on yet.

and he's off ]

Anakin--! [She reaches a hand out to him, too late.]
