[ Which seems like a leadup to some torrid romance, but Clark finds it fits. ]

But I trust him to do what's right for the people here.

[ It does sound like the lead-up to some torrid romance. ]

Whoa! How 'complicated' are we talking? [ Like Facebook complicated??? ] Did you guys like...date?

[ Clark chokes on air, unable to help himself. His expression is bemused though. ]

Complicated in the sense that he hated me.

[ Lance opens his mouth to respond, then it clicks shut. ]

Oh.

[ Well that's, uh. Lance's expression twists into more of a frown. ]

Because you aren't human? [ They've had this talk before, haven't they? ] Because he was afraid?

[ Clark's eyes soften and he reaches out to touch Lance's shoulder, squeezing it. Clark doesn't do personal contact often. He is a restrained individual, but for Lance, he wants to show a little of his gratitude. ]

A lot of people were afraid. They have the right to be.

[ Lance leans immediately into the hand, but his expression doesn't soften. ]

Well yeah, everybody's afraid sometimes! That doesn't give anybody the right to treat other people--that includes you, by the way--like crap!

[ He crosses his arms. ] Whatever, I'm sure this Bruce guy is a total jerk anyway.

[ His lips quirk and he wonders if he should defend Bruce's honour here, though Clark is more than sure he can defend himself. Still, he does attempt to soften the blow. ]

Why don't you wait until you meet him and decide for yourself.

[ Every theatrical, Lance throws his hands up. ]

I guess. [ He starts walking, clearly expecting the other man to follow. ] C'mon Clark, let's go check out that crystal thing.

[ Smile still playing on his lips, Clark wisely follows Lance. ]
