Who: Cayde-6 (exorion) and his FIRETEAM || Cayde-6 (exorion) and team Rescue This Dumb Robot When: Backdated for Day 8 Where: IT'S IN THE FRAKKING SHIP What: Exploration & also Cayde has an accident
[Clarke swallows her fear at that. She thinks probably they've seen the bulk of the bugs the queen was protecting, and they at least know how to handle them, but still the eggs could have been something else.]
You still haven't told me how you survived that fall.
[She knows he said it already but does not feel like her question has been answered.]
I don't know what that means. It doesn't even make sense for there to be less gravity that far down, unless there's some kind of technology that can emulate it.
[There she goes again, frowning at the sand like there's a math problem drawn in it.]
[Cayde kneels where he is, brushing his hand over a flat patch of dirt to even it out and then starts drawing with the tip of his finger, narrating as he goes. It's a vague map of what's down there since it's easier for him to explain with a visual aid.]
This is where I landed, looks like it might've been some kind of research center? There... Well there was a decontamination chamber here. Security turrets dotted around the ceiling, some kinda terminals... [And he draws out the path the Last took him down and the little room at the end.] Down here it's more dirt than ship, but there's a safe room at the end here? It's where Jess found me-- didn't drain my suit at all while I was in it.
[Cayde looks at Jess, frowning internally even if no one can see it, and then sighs. He wishes he had paper and a pen, he could draw out something useful for them, but nope. Nada. He just leans over to another patch of dirt, trying as best as he can to show them what he met down there.]
I met this guy. Huge, must've been about eight feet. [It's a crude representation of The Last, but Cayde tries at least to do it big enough for a semi-accurate representation of the shape of it.] Called itself The Last, took me somewhere safe after it saw the symbol on my hand.
[From her very comfortable spot in the sand, close enough to hear the conversation without having to get up in anyone's space, Jess shoots Cayde a look.]
You didn't think to mention that when I could've gone after it?
[Screw the power drain, if there's a native here, or an alien with more knowledge than them, they need to find it.]
[Jess gets A Look right back and he raises both hands in a gesture for quiet. Is he gonna have to get a talking stick for them to pass around or something.]
Yeah, sending you after some giant who knows the ship well enough to use its systems with no idea what it's capable of, where it went after locking me in the room, or what kind of state you're in? Genius.
It wasn't real talkative, but it showed me a picture of the planet; two moons-- called it Kharas.
[God, straightening out what's useful and what isn't and what he wants to think about a little more before he relates it back is... It takes some thinking.]
Said "the Overseers" [fingerquotes] destroyed Kharas because it had the Atlas.
[God this is all so exhausting. Clarke wishes she had something to write down all this information but she doesn't so she'll just have to remember it. She's half-decent at that.]
[Clarke's face falls a bit at Cayde's answer and she sighs, deflating a bit. There's information there and it's interesting, but it still leaves them without any direction whatsoever. She just wants to get home, why is this so hard.]
[ He's in camp Clarke. Why is it that every time they get information, all it does is create more confusion? Realizing his question is pointless--if Cayde knew, he'd have said--Lance gets up, dusting off his knees. ]
Whatever. This is useless. Unless your guy needs rescuing, I vote we figure out another way to get answers.
[Clarke looks up at Lance, entirely empathetic with his frustration even though she keeps quiet. She just feels like there must be something in there to unpack even if they can't see it yet.]
[She turns back to Cayde, unsure and hopeful for answers but ready for none.]
What do you think? Was it trying to help us? Do you... feel like you understand any more of this?
no subject
[What a full hour of his life.]
[He keeps walking, looking for a spot away from the ship if they wanna talk, but he's feeling a bit more conversational now too.]
There's a whole bunch of eggs down there. Didn't see any hatchlings, but I'd wager that's what the Queen was protecting.
no subject
[It all looked empty and dead, just like the queen is now.]
no subject
You still haven't told me how you survived that fall.
no subject
Don't tell me you landed in a pile of eggs.
[ He makes a face. He'd found a half-rotted broken kharid egg inside a cache earlier, and the memory is a nasty one. ]
no subject
[Though he's pretty sure he explained it already, and he shrugs with a hand on his hip.]
I told you, the gravity down there's weird. Didn't land that hard at all.
no subject
I don't know what that means. It doesn't even make sense for there to be less gravity that far down, unless there's some kind of technology that can emulate it.
[There she goes again, frowning at the sand like there's a math problem drawn in it.]
What else did you see?
no subject
This is where I landed, looks like it might've been some kind of research center? There... Well there was a decontamination chamber here. How'd you wind up there? How'd you know it would be safe?
[ Awfully convenient... ]

I met this guy. Huge, must've been about eight feet. [It's a crude representation of The Last, but Cayde tries at least to do it big enough for a semi-accurate representation of the shape of it.] Called itself The Last, took me somewhere safe after it saw the symbol on my hand.
no subject
So you saw another alien down there, who isn't with us.
[Clarke hates this alien business she's over it.]
no subject
Wait—there's some guy down there? Why didn't you bring him up? Does he need help?
[ Sweet summer child. ]
no subject
You didn't think to mention that when I could've gone after it?
[Screw the power drain, if there's a native here, or an alien with more knowledge than them, they need to find it.]

Yeah, sending you after some giant who knows the ship well enough to use its systems with no idea what it's capable of, where it went after locking me in the room, or what kind of state you're in? Genius.
no subject
Okay, but like--what did it tell you? Did it even talk?
no subject
That is actually a fairly reasonable point and although Jess is a bit annoyed, something that's written on her face, she shuts up.]
no subject
Did it tell you anything? Or show you anything? Like why we're here or what we're supposed to do?
no subject
[God, straightening out what's useful and what isn't and what he wants to think about a little more before he relates it back is... It takes some thinking.]
Said "the Overseers" [fingerquotes] destroyed Kharas because it had the Atlas.
no subject
So, we're on Kharas to "find the Atlas" [ also fingerquotes ] which would imply they didn't find it.
no subject
Did it explain what the Atlas is?
no subject
No. I asked, but he locked me in the room and left.
[He’s so good at making friends y’all.]
no subject
[ Well. That's a load of not-very-much-at-all.
Lance huffs out a breath, looking down at his lap in thought. The Last. ]
Do you know why it called itself that? 'The Last'?
[ Sounds ominous. ]
no subject
no subject
[He spreads his hands a little, as if he's presenting some grand discovery that doesn't just raise a whole host of other questions.]
Called us The First too.
no subject
How can he be the Last and us the First?
[ He's in camp Clarke. Why is it that every time they get information, all it does is create more confusion? Realizing his question is pointless--if Cayde knew, he'd have said--Lance gets up, dusting off his knees. ]
