Intro Log: The Forgotten City

GOOD MORNING NEW ARRIVALS This time for real! WAKEY WAKEY. As the storm finally peters out and characters can once again move above ground it becomes abundantly clear that the landscape has changed. Where vast expanses of sand dunes once laid is now the half-buried remnants of what looks like some sort of...city? Full of structures. It stretches so far it's really hard to tell. But there is one thing characters will notice: There are more stasis pods. Revealed by the sandstorm, a whole new flurry of pods can be found scattered on the way to the city (curiously though, not in it. Hurry and wake those guys up! SPREAD THE LOVE. OR ACID. With the departure of the storm there's even more new arrivals to be found besides those fellow travelers of yours! The "Seedlings" and "Cactus" are now both available, the former blown in by the storm and the former uncovered. The Seedlings are generally pretty harmless. They like to burrow into the sand so only their "Leaves" plant-like leaves remain above ground, and they're quite happy to stay that way until surprised. Then they pop up and trip over themselves a little, before slowing down and wandering aimlessly. When they find a patch of sand that looks comfy they begin burrowing back down. Pull or yank on their leaves though and you'll find yourself with a face full of pollen that makes you want to just tell everyone how super-cool they are. It lasts a while, and then you get a fever and vomit for two hours. Good times. The Cacti are much less harmless and just...why would you eat them? Everything about this plant is poisonous, and cracking it open causes a corrosive acid-like substance to spill out. It'll eat through everything but...dirt, oddly. Metals and flesh are like hot oil on plastic. DON'T GET LOST And last but not least: The Forgotten City. Maybe you want to check out the Hull first for some loot, but maybe that's not such a cool idea anymore? Although it looks like the ship's definitely more powered after draining the suits of whoever went in, now it's started to spread and fill the sinkhole the ship's in. Suits can go from 100% to 0% in just ten minutes--not good! Lucky for everyone else, it looks like finally there's some sort of civilization up ahead. Go on and check it out! OR DO. THAT'S OKAY TOO. Go nuts, have fun, and enjoy! (This is the wildcard option) OOC The Flora, Fauna & Resources page has been updated with information on the seedlings, cacti, and crystals! These items are now all available for Discovery, and The Forgotten City will be available indefinitely from now on! Characters can take this time to settle & build up a foundation for themselves, explore the area, and of course, harass those poor little seedlings. We encourage players to make their own open posts for this setting--you don't need to stick to just this intro log! But make sure to make our newbies feel welcome!

[ He blinks a little at the term "Supergirl". He pauses, a little hesitant. ]

My . . . cousin.

[ He smiles a little brighter, not sure if saying that means he'll get shot down. ]

If that's okay.

A doctor, yeah. [ Although not much of one without his medpouch or tricorder. ] And you're... what are you?

"You got that right," agrees Bull, crouching down. Not to be condescending, he's just interested in the little plant at his feet, touches it carefully with delicate forefinger and thumb. That does mean now he is the one looking up at this puffed up little kid though. Maybe that will make Fuyuhiko feel better.

"Last thing I remember," he adds conversationally, as he tears off a leaf, crushes it a little between his fingers and sniffs it contemplatatively, "I was someplace called the Frostback Mountains. Whoever named them wasn't all that creative, and it was cold. As. Shit." He touches the leaf carefully to his tongue, hums. "Desert is tough, but it's a tough I know, at least."

[Something in Max's shoulders eases. If it needs to be something more powerful than a single person, it can't be about Adonis.

Though she still isn't entirely sure this isn't one of Asteria's illusion.]

How long have you been here?

[Matt has enhanced senses, but he's cagey enough about what he can do that Jess definitely isn't going to share that.]

I'm not outta some comic book.

[She realizes there's some irony there, considering she has super strength and knows a man with mind control, but still. Freeze breath? Really?]

At least ten days.

[ Though he's finding it harder to keep time. The days seem long and arduous, even for him. ]

You'll find it's the same for all of us except for some of the newly-awakened. Like yourself.

[ Wry; he knows exactly what this guy was really asking. ]

My people are called the qunari. I defected from the qun, but most people would still call me a qunari, 'cause we don't really have any other word for our... species.

​​[​​ She's a little cranky, but she needn't have taken the trouble to help Kara out or tell her anything, really, so points anyway to Jess. ]

I'm also a lot stronger and faster than I look. It's my alien physiology.

​​[​​ There's nothing more she wants in her heart, above being a superhero, above using her powers. Family is the only thing that ever mattered. She has Alex, and Eliza, but they're not the same as Kal. There's no past there shared, only futures to be built. ]

So what do you want to know first? What do you already know?

[ Bull makes a back of the throat frustrated noise. But he's not actually an explosives expert. ]

Fine. I'll at least get a mage to take a look at it first.

Yeah, I don't see that as a problem.

[ A feature, not a bug. If the guy is stronger than him, good, he kind of likes getting beat up. Pain helps clear his head from all the bullshit. Unless... Bull squints his single eye. ]

You can control yourself, right? Not gonna go all berserk on me?

[ Not that he can talk given he is literally a Reaver, but he's probably not going to need to go into full battle rage for one guy. ]

[Max nods, accepting the information and working out what more she needs to know. He has as little knowledge as she does about their situation, so it's pointless asking him about that. Survival needs to come first.]

Do you have shelter? A source of water?

[Jess knew that already, but she nods like she's just taking Kara at her word.]

You're gonna need it.

[It seems like it goes from one thing to another, here. Explosions, landslides, bugs, sandstorms. And Jess is still maintaining her theory that most of them are here because of their gifts.]

But you're also not gonna be as strong and fast as you're used to. Our best guess is that the suit drains it from us.

[anewhope]

[ Clark pauses, feeling a bit sheepish and out of his element. ]

I know Krypton pushed itself too hard. My father tried to warn them. Tried to change things but it was too late.

Zod killed him. And I was sent away.

[anewhope]

[ Clark meets Iron Bull's gaze head-on. ]

I don't lose control.

[ He's lost his temper, but not his control. ]

I'm gonna use this — [ He puts a hand on some of the grass he's already collected ] To make a net. Then I'm going to kinda sew the edges with root fibers, so it doesn't come apart.

[ He still isn't sure whether his first net will be a bag for carrying things or wider for throwing and trapping, but it depends on the strength of the roots. ]

Could also twist them into a kind of string, I guess. Tie goods together, toss them over your shoulder.

[ Only not really that last thing, he's just teasing again, in the face of all that determined assertiveness. ]

My father was a scientist like yours, and my mother was a judge. I don't think anyone believed our world would really die, even if it was happening around us.

​​[​​ She hadn't. Even now having seen it it feels more like some horrible dream. ]

We shared a star with Daxam; a red dwarf. We called it Rao. It's also the name of our god.

[ Clark glances at his power levels. They're still decent and even though he's limited, he's fairly confident he can hold out. And it'll be a way for him to properly gauge how much weaker he was. So he nods. ]

If you tell me to stop, I'll stop.

[anewhope]

[ He nods to the first question. ]

We made use of the ship. And now we have the city. We haven't explored that fully yet.

[ He's. So loud and enthusiastic. Bull claps his hands once, sharply, pleased. ]

But let's not step on the plants.

[ Not when they seem to be so rare in the desert. It's time to go out into the dunes! Where no one will see Bull get rekt. ]

C'mon, big guy.

[anewhope]

We had a god?

[ It seemed almost hard to believe. Not that Clark ever took into the divine aspect that people had attributed to his deeds and self, but it was just hard to picture Krypton that way. ]

There's a city, then? Not just this wasteland?

[She hasn't missed the fact he didn't answer her question about water, which is troubling, though she can go without for far longer than most people could.]

[anewhope]

An empty city.

[ Or something that appears to be empty. Clark isn't ready to dismiss possibilities. ]

We'll probably go in scouting parties for supplies.

[anewhope]

[ He sighs quietly, rolling his shoulders. Then he heads off into the desert. Far enough that no innocuous stranger will wander in and get the wrong idea but enough distance that Clark can locate the city and the others without too much trouble. ]
