Intro Log: The Forgotten City

GOOD MORNING NEW ARRIVALS

This time for real!

WAKEY WAKEY.

As the storm finally peters out and characters can once again move above ground it becomes abundantly clear that the landscape has changed. Where vast expanses of sand dunes once laid is now the half-buried remnants of what looks like some sort of...city? Full of structures. It stretches so far it's really hard to tell. But there is one thing characters will notice:

There are more stasis pods.

Revealed by the sandstorm, a whole new flurry of pods can be found scattered on the way to the city (curiously though, not in it. Hurry and wake those guys up!

SPREAD THE LOVE. OR ACID.

With the departure of the storm there's even more new arrivals to be found besides those fellow travelers of yours! The "Seedlings" and "Cactus" are now both available, the former blown in by the storm and the former uncovered.

The Seedlings are generally pretty harmless. They like to burrow into the sand so only their "Leaves" plant-like leaves remain above ground, and they're quite happy to stay that way until surprised. Then they pop up and trip over themselves a little, before slowing down and wandering aimlessly. When they find a patch of sand that looks comfy they begin burrowing back down.

Pull or yank on their leaves though and you'll find yourself with a face full of pollen that makes you want to just tell everyone how super-cool they are. It lasts a while, and then you get a fever and vomit for two hours. Good times.

The Cacti are much less harmless and just...why would you eat them? Everything about this plant is poisonous, and cracking it open causes a corrosive acid-like substance to spill out. It'll eat through everything but...dirt, oddly. Metals and flesh are like hot oil on plastic.

DON'T GET LOST

And last but not least: The Forgotten City. Maybe you want to check out the Hull first for some loot, but maybe that's not such a cool idea anymore? Although it looks like the ship's definitely more powered after draining the suits of whoever went in, now it's started to spread and fill the sinkhole the ship's in. Suits can go from 100% to 0% in just ten minutes--not good!

Lucky for everyone else, it looks like finally there's some sort of civilization up ahead. Go on and check it out!

OR DO. THAT'S OKAY TOO.

Go nuts, have fun, and enjoy! (This is the wildcard option)

OOC

The Flora, Fauna & Resources page has been updated with information on the seedlings, cacti, and crystals! These items are now all available for Discovery, and The Forgotten City will be available indefinitely from now on! Characters can take this time to settle & build up a foundation for themselves, explore the area, and of course, harass those poor little seedlings.

We encourage players to make their own open posts for this setting--you don't need to stick to just this intro log! But make sure to make our newbies feel welcome!

[ That's a refreshing response, no awkwardness, which is always a positive in Allura's eyes.

Though - ]

Why are you digging for roots, what are you planning on binding?

[ She grew up with advanced technology; the idea of using grass to binding something is more than a bit foreign to her. ]

I'm gonna use this — [ He puts a hand on some of the grass he's already collected ] To make a net. Then I'm going to kinda sew the edges with root fibers, so it doesn't come apart.

[ He still isn't sure whether his first net will be a bag for carrying things or wider for throwing and trapping, but it depends on the strength of the roots. ]

Could also twist them into a kind of string, I guess. Tie goods together, toss them over your shoulder.

[ That sounds interesting, insofar as it's a good idea to actually have a net and a way to carry things, but the time spent in that almost seems not worth it.

Allura's not afraid of hard work, though. ]
Need some help digging up this grass? I'm interested in seeing the finished product. [ And she's curious about him, he's distinctly different than anyone she's met so far. ]

[personal profile] ex_broach530 2016-11-15 12:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Not worried about getting your lil elf hands dirty?

[ He's teasing. Or flirting. Or being friendly. Those are all basically the same thing to The Iron Bull. ]

Sure, I could use some more digging.

They'll wash. Better to do something than sit around.

[ A princess she might be, but there's nothing wrong with hard work. She joins the Bull, sinking fingers into the dirt. ] You're not human.

[personal profile] ex_broach530 2016-11-16 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Neither are you.

[ He points out mildly, lifting his eye from his work but continuing to feel out roots through the sandy dirt with his fingers. ]

You've never seen a qunari before?
mousewhisperer: (046)

[personal profile] mousewhisperer 2016-11-17 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Observant, aren't you? [ But she says it is with a teasing glint in her eye. ]

Can't say I have, though there are plenty of people out there I have yet to encounter. What planet are you from?

[personal profile] ex_broach530 2016-11-20 06:24 am (UTC)(link)
Uh.

[ Why do people keep asking him this. ]

The land I come from people mostly call Thedas. Hadn't even heard the word planet before yesterday.
mousewhisperer: (022)

[personal profile] mousewhisperer 2016-11-20 06:27 am (UTC)(link)
[ That's... such a foreign concept to Allura that she stares at him, puzzled. ]

Was your land very small?

[personal profile] ex_broach530 2016-11-20 06:41 am (UTC)(link)
Shit no. Thedas has a few different kingdoms in it. Mountains, deserts, oceans ...
mousewhisperer: (034)

[personal profile] mousewhisperer 2016-11-20 06:49 am (UTC)(link)
My planet had different ecosystems, but there was only one kingdom, if that is the appropriate term.

[ Monolithic planets shouldn't be that common, and yet. ]

Was your land peaceful? Were all Thedans like you, Qunari?

[personal profile] ex_broach530 2016-11-21 02:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Nope and nope again.

[ Bull shakes his head. ]

Most of Thedas is human. Then there's the dwarves and the elves — some of 'em live in human cities, some groups do their own thing. My race invaded to spread the word of the Qun — anyone can be a qunari really, even without the grey skin. Just gotta convert.
mousewhisperer: (041)

[personal profile] mousewhisperer 2016-11-21 07:24 pm (UTC)(link)
So it is more of a religion than a race?

[ Sounds... suspicious, really. Almost Galran, as they seem to accept anyone if they pledge their loyalty to the Empire.

Something to watch out for, later.

And there's a lot of words in that sentence Allura doesn't entirely get. ]

What are dwarves and elves?

[personal profile] ex_broach530 2016-11-24 05:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, kinda.

[ There's priests of the Qun, so it's basically a religion... just one that informs all aspects of qunari society, from the top to the bottom, dictates everything from governance to breeding to international relations.

Her next question surprises him though.
]

What do you mean, what are... you're an elf, right? With the...

[ He gestures to her ears. ]
mousewhisperer: (038)

[personal profile] mousewhisperer 2016-11-25 07:35 am (UTC)(link)
[ That sounds rather complicated. But useful, at least? Hopefully?

Though she does frown at that question. ]

No. I'm Altean, not an elf, whatever that is. [ Space elves, though she doesn't know it. ] I am from the planet Altea.

[personal profile] ex_broach530 2016-12-02 07:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Altea. Huh. Never heard of it.

[ This planet business again. ]

Well, where I come from elves are a race of magical people, kinda small and pretty, usually distinguished by their pointy ears and facial markings. Like nature a lot. Tend to get a lot of crap from humans.
mousewhisperer: (042)

[personal profile] mousewhisperer 2016-12-05 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
[ That... does not surprise her. No one around here seems to have heard of it. ]

Definitely not an elf, despite the ears and the markings. I'd never even heard of humans before the Lance and the others found my castle, and while Altea had it's share of nature, we were technologically advanced.

[ They have a giant robot that's formed by lion robots. Certainly not natural. Allura eyes the Bull again, then grins. ] We can shapeshift, though. Mind if I try to mimic you?

[ She wouldn't normally ask, but he is a relative stranger, so better to be a little more polite. ]

[personal profile] ex_broach530 2016-12-10 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Bull looks a little taken aback, but doesn't hesitate. ]

Shit yeah! Make sure to get the horns right.
mousewhisperer: (018)

[personal profile] mousewhisperer 2016-12-15 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
[ There's only so much she can do to mimic him, but after a moment of concentration, Allura's frame stretches and expands. She can get close to his height, only half of his bulk, but she can get the skin tone right; her own facial markings disappear. The horns are nowhere near as impressive as Bull's, much smaller and narrower, but they're close. She still has her cloud of white hair, which would probably give her away anywhere. ]

How's that?
