Power failure? [ he's joking mostly, what with the whole ship being completely unresponsive. But it would be pretty spot-on if it were. ] Or a malfunction. Weird that we haven't found any bodies yet.

You think it's really been that long since stuff went south here?

It's hard to tell with some ships. The one I came into contact with was older than entire ancient civilizations. It was in decent shape.

[ Just on the lowest vestiges of power. Clark had been in the process of re-purposing it when Zod arrived and once that happened, he abandoned it. ]

...Wait, you serious? [ Clark you really need to fill him in on all the deets here. He's blindsided by all this new info you keep dropping. ]

It was hidden in the Artic. Krypton had sent ships all over the universe to find other habitable planets. Potential colonies.

[ He lapses into silence. Clark had never spoken about these things before and he finds himself surprised that those were his words. ]

Isn't Krypton, like, the name of an actual element in the periodic table? That's a crazy coincidence that your planet's the same. [ Mildly off-topic, but that's Inui. ]

Lucky you though. Got any experience with this sorta thing?

It's not related.

[ He gets the feeling he'll be fielding a lot of those questions from Inui. As to his query, Clark simply shakes his head. ]

If I had my old key, perhaps. Otherwise, I wouldn't know.

...? [ Inui looks over to give him a quizzical look. ]

What does a key have to do with alien tech?

It had an AI implanted in it. That was the quickest way to get access to a ship.

[ He still wished Jor-El had made more of them. ]

So the AI did the alien stuff, not you. Makes sense if you thought you were human the whole time you were growing up. [ No parent aliens to teach him to...alien, he supposes. ]

[anewhope]

Up til I was fourteen or so.

[ When he rescued a drowning bus. A few parents had come up to the house, saying it's god work. Smallville was a small town, small community. Aliens is not the first conclusion they would jump to. ]

Like I said, I know very little about . . . aliens.

Too bad, that woulda come in handy here. [ Inui shrugs, moving over towards the power core and looking up at it as it casts blue light across his face. ]

This is the sorta thing you only see in comic books.

[ Clark pauses before replying, steady. ]

Let's hope it's as neat as it is in comic books.

[ Because the reality is very different. ]

Hey, what d'you think'll happen if we mess around with this thing? [ he motions to the giant power core with a thumb, wandering a little closer. ]

Maybe we can turn it back on?

Yes. I'm sure there's a convenient button just for that.

[ If only. Still Clark approaches the power core with no fear. He doesn't reach out to touch it though. ]

It probably needs an activation code.

We could always check for something, see if anything down here works. Someone found a bunch of these weird glowing batteries earlier.

[ Technically power cells, but Inui's not really sure what to call them, more interested in peering around at the foot of the power core for any sort of toolbox or other upended items. ]

Batteries?

[ He's surprised that this advanced race even needs something like that. ]

I don't suppose they found where to use them.

I didn't ask. [ Inui shrugs, aaaand--bingo. Inui finds a rusted, warped metal box--looks like something an engineer might have--and drags it out. ]

Feel like flexing those pecks a little?

Just break it open?

[ There's no hesitation in wanting to comply with Inui's request, though he's eyeing the metal box warily. ]

Well unless you see a key or something hanging around. [ Clark please, this place has been abandoned. What's a little exploratory theft? ]

[ He sighs before pressing down on the box lightly. It breaks open neatly, the sides collapsing. ]

AFTER HASTILY FIRING OFF SOME QS TO THE MODS...

[ And as Clark does the whole thing...pretty much crumbles. But hey! There's stuff inside right? A bunch of small plastic figures that look like...

Huh. ]

...Are those plastic monsters? [ Space dinosaurs, to be precise. ]

[anewhope]

[ Clark delicately picks one up. ]

I — they appear to be?

[ Inui crouches down and carefully picks one up to inspect it and...yeah, wow. These look like tiny plastic alien dinosaurs or monsters or something. ]

Sooo...We found alien collectables?

[anewhope]

They're . . . cute.

[ Clark dangles them thoughtfully. Perhaps there were families on these ships. Children. His heart aches. His parents hadn't had the time to put anything else in the pod, not with Krypton's imminent destruction looming over their heads. He clears his throat, looking away. ]

Should we leave them here?

Well they're not especially useful... An' I don't feel like stealing some dead person's toys. [ Inui shrugs. ]
