GOOD MORNING NEW ARRIVALS

This time for real!WAKEY WAKEY.
As the storm finally peters out and characters can once again move above ground it becomes abundantly clear that the landscape has
changed. Where vast expanses of sand dunes once laid is now the half-buried remnants of what looks like some sort of...city? Full of structures. It stretches so far it's really hard to tell. But there is one thing characters will notice:
There are more stasis pods.
Revealed by the sandstorm, a whole new flurry of pods can be found scattered on the way to the city (curiously though, not
in it. Hurry and wake those guys up!
SPREAD THE LOVE. OR ACID.

With the departure of the storm there's even more new arrivals to be found besides those fellow travelers of yours! The
"Seedlings" and
"Cactus" are now both available, the former blown in by the storm and the former uncovered.
The Seedlings are generally pretty harmless. They like to burrow into the sand so only their "Leaves" plant-like leaves remain above ground, and they're quite happy to stay that way until surprised. Then they pop up and trip over themselves a little, before slowing down and wandering aimlessly. When they find a patch of sand that looks comfy they begin burrowing back down.
Pull or yank on their leaves though and you'll find yourself with
a face full of pollen that makes you want to just tell everyone
how super-cool they are. It lasts a while, and then you get a fever and vomit for two hours. Good times.
The Cacti are much less harmless and just...why would you eat them? Everything about this plant is poisonous, and cracking it open causes a corrosive acid-like substance to spill out. It'll eat through everything but...dirt, oddly. Metals and flesh are like hot oil on plastic.
DON'T GET LOST
And last but not least: The Forgotten City. Maybe you want to check out the Hull first for some loot, but maybe that's not such a cool idea anymore? Although it looks like the ship's definitely more powered after draining the suits of whoever went in, now it's started to spread and fill the sinkhole the ship's in. Suits can go from 100% to 0% in just ten minutes--not good!
Lucky for everyone else, it looks like
finally there's
some sort of civilization up ahead. Go on and check it out!
OR DO. THAT'S OKAY TOO.
Go nuts, have fun, and enjoy! (This is the wildcard option)
OOC
The
Flora, Fauna & Resources page has been updated with information on the seedlings, cacti, and crystals! These items are now all available for
Discovery, and The
Forgotten City will be available indefinitely from now on! Characters can take this time to settle & build up a foundation for themselves, explore the area, and of course, harass those poor little seedlings.
We encourage players to make their own open posts for this setting--you don't need to stick to just this intro log! But make sure to make our newbies feel welcome!

Yeah, yeah, I'm fine. [ His words sound slightly put out, but he still lends his arm out for Spock to grab and steady him as he steps out of his stasis pod. ] What the hell's happened, Spock?
no subject
[Spock purses his lips. It is truly regrettable that he can't give a better response than that, but neither is he particularly comfortable launching into any premature theories so soon after arriving. He needs more information before he can share any useful ideas.]
If we explore the surrounding terrain, however, we may find clues regarding how we came here. I must ask, however...what do you last remember before waking up?

Or get even more hopelessly lost. [ Don't you know what they tell kids, Spock? They tell them to stay put and not run around like chickens with their heads cut off. With no communicator, they'll have no way of contacting the Enterprise should they move away from their original spot. ] We were in the swarm ship heading for the ventilation shafts...

As I said, we have been in suspended animation for an indeterminable amount of time. If no one from Starfleet has located us by now, we may have no choice but to take that risk.
[He gives the slightest of nods at that answer. So neither of them have any recollections of what happened between then and now, which means neither of them know Jim's current status. Spock glances away as he considers the full implications of that, but only for just a moment.]
...I see. In that case, your memories roughly correspond with mine. It may be wise to search among those who are here for any members of our crew.

(( ooc: yadda yadda this is where other threads with characters come into play before they meet back up))

This is the pod in which I discovered Dr. McCoy, Captain.
[As they approach the open container, Spock notes that their footprints from earlier have remained largely undisturbed, which means McCoy hasn't returned since they initially parted ways.]
He should be returning shortly. [And then perhaps they can determine the cause behind some of Jim's unusual behavior, he notes to himself. In the meantime, he studies the captain for any further signs of illness or injury that he may have somehow missed before now.]
no subject
Something's off about this. [ And he does manage to sound a little concerned, even as he already feels that urge to shower Spock with compliments rising again. ] When I found Bones, he told me he's been here for a while. Not years or anything, but definitely longer than just an hour.
[ His brain will get there eventually— might have already, if it weren't for the pollen. This isn't the first time he's met an older and alternate version of someone he knows, after all. ]

As he stalks up the last dune, his first vision is that bowl cut and ears. Then another person appears right beside him. ]
Jim!
[ Okay, so maybe Spock was doing good work after all. ]
damn right he was doing good work 8(
When the doctor announces his presence by addressing Kirk, Spock's gaze shifts over to his form as it emerges from beyond one of the sand dunes.
Whether Jim's encounter with an older McCoy resulted from a warped perception of reality, or whether his experience is related to a different phenomenon, remains to be seen. In the meantime, the Vulcan clasps his hands behind his back and takes a moment to quietly observe their reunion.]
yes spock u always do good work /pats head
Bones!
[ He takes off running towards him, apparently not the least bit hindered or even slowed down by the sand. He's looking a little too happy for someone stuck on a desert planet, too. Not that he seems to care.
He also doesn't show any signs of slowing down or stopping, and once close enough he literally flings himself at Bones, arms wrapping around his shoulders. ]
I've missed you so much. [ Said all soft and sweet like it's been weeks or months or something. It has not. He sighs happily. ] My doctor. My best and coolest doctor.
no subject
This is not right. Yep, this is definitely not right. Something's not right here. His friend is the affectionate sort, but this is too over the top even for a death-defying mission. Enduring these sweet nothings, McCoy's mouth turns up in a confused sneer. ]
My God, what's gotten into you? [ No, bad question. He turns his attention straight at Spock instead. ] What's gotten into him?
no subject
I do not know, Doctor. He greeted me in a similar manner. When I questioned him regarding what transpired since his awaking here, he spoke of questioning approximately two females, pursuing plant life of some kind, and also meeting...you.
no subject
Will you two stop worrying? I feel great!
[ Too great, Jim. That's the whole problem here.
He does pull away a little when Spock mentions Jim meeting the doctor before. But only a little. ] Oh! Yeah, I met you! Well, a different you, I guess. He looked older. But he was just as grumpy and cute. [ He smiles fondly. ]
no subject
A different me... [ That sounds worrying. Very worrying. McCoy doesn't need to deal with alternate realities any more than he has to. Spock's the one with the double, that realm then should stay over there! ] Jim, I haven't been accused of being cute since I was a kid. And I don't intend to be now. What the hell's gotten into you? Or on you? You said something about plants?
[ His judgmental eyes turn from Spock back to Jim, lips pursed with clear exasperation. ]
Did you touch unknown plant life, Jim?
no subject
Spock’s attention shifts toward Jim, and he crisply says:] Captain, would you please indicate to us what it was you were referring?
no subject
He opens his mouth to answer, then closes it again when Spock answers it for him. So he tilts his head towards him in a nod. ] What he said.
[ At the request he starts looking around, finally (and reluctantly) unlatching himself from Bones. For just a little while, anyway. ] There should be one around there. They're buried in the sand and then... oh. This might be one.
[ Before either of them can stop him, Jim takes quick strides towards some leaves poking out of the ground and reaches out to try and touch them. The plant comes to life by jumping off the ground and starting to run away in its tiny root-like legs. ]
no subject
Okay, Rule Number One: Nobody touch anything anymore!
[ This rule is only for Jim, since Spock isn't dumb enough to go playing with things he doesn't understand, but he says it for everyone so his poor Captain doesn't feel picked on. Clearly. ]
no subject
Captain. [He actually clasps a pale hand on Kirk's shoulder to prevent him from giving anymore demonstrations.] How did the creature react when you began pursuing it?
no subject
I didn't touch anything!
[ He sounds almost offended as he says that, honestly Bones. ]
Well, it just kinda ran around at first. And then when I— [ Touched it. When he touched it. He's not going to admit that out loud now, though. ] —got closer to it, it sneezed some kind of... yellow thing on me.
