GOOD MORNING NEW ARRIVALS

This time for real!WAKEY WAKEY.
As the storm finally peters out and characters can once again move above ground it becomes abundantly clear that the landscape has
changed. Where vast expanses of sand dunes once laid is now the half-buried remnants of what looks like some sort of...city? Full of structures. It stretches so far it's really hard to tell. But there is one thing characters will notice:
There are more stasis pods.
Revealed by the sandstorm, a whole new flurry of pods can be found scattered on the way to the city (curiously though, not
in it. Hurry and wake those guys up!
SPREAD THE LOVE. OR ACID.

With the departure of the storm there's even more new arrivals to be found besides those fellow travelers of yours! The
"Seedlings" and
"Cactus" are now both available, the former blown in by the storm and the former uncovered.
The Seedlings are generally pretty harmless. They like to burrow into the sand so only their "Leaves" plant-like leaves remain above ground, and they're quite happy to stay that way until surprised. Then they pop up and trip over themselves a little, before slowing down and wandering aimlessly. When they find a patch of sand that looks comfy they begin burrowing back down.
Pull or yank on their leaves though and you'll find yourself with
a face full of pollen that makes you want to just tell everyone
how super-cool they are. It lasts a while, and then you get a fever and vomit for two hours. Good times.
The Cacti are much less harmless and just...why would you eat them? Everything about this plant is poisonous, and cracking it open causes a corrosive acid-like substance to spill out. It'll eat through everything but...dirt, oddly. Metals and flesh are like hot oil on plastic.
DON'T GET LOST
And last but not least: The Forgotten City. Maybe you want to check out the Hull first for some loot, but maybe that's not such a cool idea anymore? Although it looks like the ship's definitely more powered after draining the suits of whoever went in, now it's started to spread and fill the sinkhole the ship's in. Suits can go from 100% to 0% in just ten minutes--not good!
Lucky for everyone else, it looks like
finally there's
some sort of civilization up ahead. Go on and check it out!
OR DO. THAT'S OKAY TOO.
Go nuts, have fun, and enjoy! (This is the wildcard option)
OOC
The
Flora, Fauna & Resources page has been updated with information on the seedlings, cacti, and crystals! These items are now all available for
Discovery, and The
Forgotten City will be available indefinitely from now on! Characters can take this time to settle & build up a foundation for themselves, explore the area, and of course, harass those poor little seedlings.
We encourage players to make their own open posts for this setting--you don't need to stick to just this intro log! But make sure to make our newbies feel welcome!
all you need is your loving captain in your personal space
So of course he rushes his way over. A little too fast, though, fast enough that it's a miracle he manages not to topple over and fall right onto Spock. Although he does sway a little when Spock stands suddenly, just a little taller than Jim himself. Wow. So cool. ]
Spock! [ He grins wide, eyes glinting, and that's all the warning Spock gets before Jim practically throws his arms around his shoulders in a hug. ] I'm so glad I found you!
so just another Tuesday basically lol
Gently, he attempts to pry Kirk's hands away.] I am...likewise pleased to see you, Captain. [By now, his initial apprehension has mostly been replaced by a mixture of puzzlement and genuine relief from finding him alive. In a soft voice, he asks:] When did you first emerge from your stasis pod?
:>
At least it's easy enough to pry him away, although his hands linger on Spock's arms. ]
A few hours ago. Anyway, that doesn't matter. Spock, I have something really important to tell you. [ His hands curl a little tighter and he looks intently into Spock's eyes. ] You are so awesome. Okay? I need you to know that.
no subject
You are so awesome is, consequently, not what he expected to hear. At all. Despite being half Human, Spock is often the first to admit that he doesn't always understand some of his colleagues' peculiarities. By now, of course, he has learned that parting ways for an indefinite amount of time is often preceded by the expression of such sentiments. But that only adds to his confusion because, as far as he is aware, this is not one of those occasions.
Eyebrows furrowing, Spock faintly tilts his head to the side as he studies the man in front of him, trying to determine whether there is cause for concern.]
Are you alright, Captain?
no subject
He huffs at the question and shakes his head dismissively, shrugging. Evidently he's been asked that a handful of times already. ]
I'm just fine! Jesus, you sound like Bones. Why can't a guy just tell his close friend that he's awesome and cool and just... [ Dreamy sigh. ] ...great?
no subject
...Jim.
[The way he utters his name is quiet and firm, and Spock intends for his sudden departure from protocol to emphasize what he's about to say next:]
Although you honor me with your words, given our present situation, I am concerned by your current behavior.
[They have been in suspended animation for an indeterminable amount of time. They are currently stranded in an inhospitable environment that, based on what he has observed, leaves them reliant on technology they do not completely understand. Most importantly, they do not know what has become of their remaining crew members.
Given these circumstances, Jim's apparent need to express his affection for him is somewhat...alarming.]
Could you please give me an account of what transpired after you awoke in your stasis pod?
no subject
People keep saying that, but I feel great. I really do.
[ Too great, actually. Which might be a dead giveaway that something's wrong with him. ]
Well, I chatted up a couple of girls— for information, [ Just in case that's not clear. ] Chased around some weird plant life. Then I met a bunch of cool people. Oh! Bones is here, you knew that? Except he looks a little older. Kinda weird, but definitely him.
no subject
To someone unfamiliar with Spock's mannerisms, his pursed lips and the tightness around his eyes would be easy miss. To anyone else, however, his concern would likely be apparent.]
We both agreed to meet each other once we had conducted our own preliminary investigations of the area. Perhaps it would be best if you accompanied me.
no subject
[ But just standing here talking about it isn't going to figure this out for them. And at the prospect of seeing the doctor again, possibly this time looking more like Jim remembers him, has his whole face lighting up. Cheer up, Spock, why so much concern? ]
Oh, yeah. I wanna see Bones. I need to see him, actually. [ He's got important stuff to tell him too, alright. For now he just settles a hand on Spock's arm. Sorry but no, he's not going to stop touching him. ] So, are you done with your poking around yet? [ Can we go see Bones now? Can we? Can we? ]
no subject
[He briefly glances toward the warm hand on his arm, but he doesn't offer any comment. Where the captain is concerned, casual touching is to be expected, and he's not particularly bothered by that in and of itself. What does unsettle him is something he aims to address as soon as possible.
With their next destination established, Spock begins to lead the way.]
