GOOD MORNING NEW ARRIVALS

This time for real!WAKEY WAKEY.
As the storm finally peters out and characters can once again move above ground it becomes abundantly clear that the landscape has
changed. Where vast expanses of sand dunes once laid is now the half-buried remnants of what looks like some sort of...city? Full of structures. It stretches so far it's really hard to tell. But there is one thing characters will notice:
There are more stasis pods.
Revealed by the sandstorm, a whole new flurry of pods can be found scattered on the way to the city (curiously though, not
in it. Hurry and wake those guys up!
SPREAD THE LOVE. OR ACID.

With the departure of the storm there's even more new arrivals to be found besides those fellow travelers of yours! The
"Seedlings" and
"Cactus" are now both available, the former blown in by the storm and the former uncovered.
The Seedlings are generally pretty harmless. They like to burrow into the sand so only their "Leaves" plant-like leaves remain above ground, and they're quite happy to stay that way until surprised. Then they pop up and trip over themselves a little, before slowing down and wandering aimlessly. When they find a patch of sand that looks comfy they begin burrowing back down.
Pull or yank on their leaves though and you'll find yourself with
a face full of pollen that makes you want to just tell everyone
how super-cool they are. It lasts a while, and then you get a fever and vomit for two hours. Good times.
The Cacti are much less harmless and just...why would you eat them? Everything about this plant is poisonous, and cracking it open causes a corrosive acid-like substance to spill out. It'll eat through everything but...dirt, oddly. Metals and flesh are like hot oil on plastic.
DON'T GET LOST
And last but not least: The Forgotten City. Maybe you want to check out the Hull first for some loot, but maybe that's not such a cool idea anymore? Although it looks like the ship's definitely more powered after draining the suits of whoever went in, now it's started to spread and fill the sinkhole the ship's in. Suits can go from 100% to 0% in just ten minutes--not good!
Lucky for everyone else, it looks like
finally there's
some sort of civilization up ahead. Go on and check it out!
OR DO. THAT'S OKAY TOO.
Go nuts, have fun, and enjoy! (This is the wildcard option)
OOC
The
Flora, Fauna & Resources page has been updated with information on the seedlings, cacti, and crystals! These items are now all available for
Discovery, and The
Forgotten City will be available indefinitely from now on! Characters can take this time to settle & build up a foundation for themselves, explore the area, and of course, harass those poor little seedlings.
We encourage players to make their own open posts for this setting--you don't need to stick to just this intro log! But make sure to make our newbies feel welcome!

And what fucking business is it of yours is on the tip of his tongue, but he bites down on it— literally, jaw clenching. He's being petulant and he knows it. He glares somewhere in the direction of the trilobite queen's looming corpse, and counts backwards from twenty in his head.
He gets to fifteen.
"Look. This isn't exactly a situation I've been in before, all right?" That's not strictly true; he has, but before he always had someone two steps behind him, watching out for him and cleaning up after him. "So if you got suggestions, I'm open to hearing 'em. If not, lay off."
... better...

"You're right. You've got maybe five days of food if you eat light, another two where you could go hungry and still get shit done. So you have a week's head start on food. Way I see it, there's four options for the week after that;"
He counts them off on the fingers of his good hand, the ones that aren't foreshortened. "One, you find food. I'm not talking scavenging, I'm talking about stumbling across another box of rations. Maybe around the pods, maybe in the city. Seems kind of unlikely, but if you found a lot you'd buy yourself a lot more time.
"Two, you scavenge as you go. Work out what's edible, keep eating it. Save what you got until you really need it. Means you're gonna be working every day just to feed yourself, but if gives you a little security, too.
"Three, you make a deal with someone else. Maybe you dig them a shelter to share, while they go hunting and split it with you. You both save each other time. If you have more time to get food you can start getting ... complex. Planting seeds, making traps, whatever. Means you gotta stick together, though, and put in your fair share of work, otherwise you'll be on your own again."

"I can't scavenge food for shit." It's not a complaint, or self-deprecation, it's just true. There are a lot of things in his skill set, but living off the land is not one of them. He's been actually, literally starving before, so he has some concept of how much time he has before he's not able to function— and it isn't enough for him to learn what he needs to know to subsist on his own, even if he wanted to. "So I have to put the work in. That's fine. Whatever I gotta do, I'll do it. One of those guys who got here before us has to have a job they don't wanna do anymore, right?"

He picks up the bushel of stringy grass roots and long, flat grass blades he's foraged, from where he'd tied them loosely to the suit he's wearing. "You know anything about making nets?"
no subject
He wasn't expecting that, and it shows a little on his face. There's a brief, awkward moment where he wonders whether he should be saying "thank you" or not— but, no, gratitude is worthless if he can't prove he can do the work first. Start with that.
"Uh. Yeah, actually." Well, no, that's misleading. It's not like he's some kind of fisherman. He stumbles a little to clarify. "I mean, I know about tying knots, at least. I bet I could pick it up."

Bull takes two long strips of the tough thick sharp-edged grass, links them, and uses the smaller roots to tie it in place. He can keep demonstrating for as long as the kid needs to see the shape of the net, catch the clever twist of the knots. Then he'll hand it over.
"You finish that. I'm going to find us something to eat."
no subject
He reaches for the net wordlessly when he feels like he's got it, and nods when Bull gets up to leave. He's a quick learner and highly motivated to not fuck this up— there's actually a decent chance it might really be finished by the time Bull gets back, or at least close to it.

He looks at the completed net with something like pride, tests the hold of the knots with some light tugs. "Hey, shit, good job. Okay, I'll trade ya." Half of what he's got for the net, which in turn will obviously help them catch some serious eats. "None of it's poison, but don't ask me to cook it."
