Intro Log: The Forgotten City

GOOD MORNING NEW ARRIVALS

This time for real!

WAKEY WAKEY.

As the storm finally peters out and characters can once again move above ground it becomes abundantly clear that the landscape has changed. Where vast expanses of sand dunes once laid is now the half-buried remnants of what looks like some sort of...city? Full of structures. It stretches so far it's really hard to tell. But there is one thing characters will notice:

There are more stasis pods.

Revealed by the sandstorm, a whole new flurry of pods can be found scattered on the way to the city (curiously though, not in it. Hurry and wake those guys up!

SPREAD THE LOVE. OR ACID.

With the departure of the storm there's even more new arrivals to be found besides those fellow travelers of yours! The "Seedlings" and "Cactus" are now both available, the former blown in by the storm and the former uncovered.

The Seedlings are generally pretty harmless. They like to burrow into the sand so only their "Leaves" plant-like leaves remain above ground, and they're quite happy to stay that way until surprised. Then they pop up and trip over themselves a little, before slowing down and wandering aimlessly. When they find a patch of sand that looks comfy they begin burrowing back down.

Pull or yank on their leaves though and you'll find yourself with a face full of pollen that makes you want to just tell everyone how super-cool they are. It lasts a while, and then you get a fever and vomit for two hours. Good times.

The Cacti are much less harmless and just...why would you eat them? Everything about this plant is poisonous, and cracking it open causes a corrosive acid-like substance to spill out. It'll eat through everything but...dirt, oddly. Metals and flesh are like hot oil on plastic.

DON'T GET LOST

And last but not least: The Forgotten City. Maybe you want to check out the Hull first for some loot, but maybe that's not such a cool idea anymore? Although it looks like the ship's definitely more powered after draining the suits of whoever went in, now it's started to spread and fill the sinkhole the ship's in. Suits can go from 100% to 0% in just ten minutes--not good!

Lucky for everyone else, it looks like finally there's some sort of civilization up ahead. Go on and check it out!

OR DO. THAT'S OKAY TOO.

Go nuts, have fun, and enjoy! (This is the wildcard option)

OOC

The Flora, Fauna & Resources page has been updated with information on the seedlings, cacti, and crystals! These items are now all available for Discovery, and The Forgotten City will be available indefinitely from now on! Characters can take this time to settle & build up a foundation for themselves, explore the area, and of course, harass those poor little seedlings.

We encourage players to make their own open posts for this setting--you don't need to stick to just this intro log! But make sure to make our newbies feel welcome!

Maybe that's true. There's a world of difference between taking a bath and ingesting something, though. Sanitation is one key to healthy living.

[He grumbles a bit for how easily distracted Jim seems to be while he moves his finger around. Finally, he ignores polite boundaries to brush a finger through remnants of pollen, staring and giving it a single sniff.]

Jim, did you find any native life forms? You know, something other than sand.

Alright, good. At least I know my doctor has allowed bathing.

[ Technically that's not what Bones said but that's how Jim heard it, so. Good enough. He sighs a little and closes his eyes, head tipping towards Bones's touch when he brushes a finger across his cheek and near his nose. Damn, that feels nice. ]

Huh? Yeah, I... yes, actually. There was some weird plant that just jumped from the ground and started running around. Kinda weird. But it didn't try to bite me or anything. It looked like it was just afraid of me.

[Bones makes a face, and tries straightening Jim's head. Damnit man, there are more important things than lolling about!]

Close enough to bite you? Maybe that's where you got all this from.
winscenario: (hundred thirty five.)

[ More important things than to nuzzle against Bones's hand? No, he thinks not. (Just be grateful they're not close enough for cuddles. For now.) ]

What? No, it didn't bite me. It just... sneezed some kind of pollen on me. It's making me feel great, though, so no complaints.

[Oh, Bones is too ruffled by this admission for gestures of affection. He pulls his hand away to shake a finger at him, as if he could accuse him. Trying to drive one's doctor to insanity is a terrible thing to do!]

Sneezing is an understatement! Do you have any idea what could happen, messing with alien flora? What if this is all an allergic delerium? You could be rolling around half-paralyzed, with -- with a swollen, purple tongue! I don't exactly have adrenaline lying about to kick people's systems back into something resembling normal.
winscenario: (hundred seventy nine.)

[ Let's be honest, every tiny little thing Jim does seems to be enough to drive Bones to insanity. He's just too sensitive like that. ]

I'm only allergic to strawberries. That was definitely not a strawberry plant. And look— [ Sticking his tongue out. See? Not purple. ]

Look, it just happened, okay? I feel fine, I'm not gonna die. Quit your fussing, and... [ Pressing a finger to the deep wrinkles between Bones's eyebrows. ] Stop frowning. As cute as it is, it'll make you look older. [ Well. Even older. ]

Retinax.

[Bones names the vision medication like that's a winning argument all on its own. It takes a moment for the realization that it may mean absolutely nothing to a younger Kirk to cross his expression.]

...And anyway, you're not going to die today, but it's my job to make that happen.

[Harrumph, harrumph. Finally, a sigh.] You have a better idea what we should be doing, Jim? [Because Jim's probably going to be the one to save the day, right?]
winscenario: (sixty two.)

[personal profile] winscenario 2016-11-27 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
What?

[ Yeah no, he has no idea about that particular allergy just yet. Especially because he's not nearly old enough to need that kind of medication. Please do not tell him he'll be all old and wrinkly and need reading glasses, that's just depressing. ]

Of course. And you do a very good job at that, too. [ His own special way of saying 'thank you'. ]

Hmm... [ He looks thoughtful for a moment. ] Not really? Haven't been here that long yet either, but... there's no Enterprise. The ship we do have access to is pretty much a heap of scrap metal. And we're almost definitely stuck on an alternate universe. [ So, yeah. Things sure look cheerful. ] For now, I'd say just poke around and see what we can find. And the ship may be beyond repair but there might be something in there we can use.
