What: IT'S TIME FOR A POW-WOW aka we built a fire

[ So it's been a rough couple of days (literally, just two). But between nearly being blown up, marching through the desert, and generally just never wanting to see desert again, there is one good thing Inui (and Lance) have discovered: those Coral plants? Can be cracked open and eaten!

So as the sun vanishes behind the rocky formations or the moon(s), fellow interlopers might notice a distinct & nutty aroma wafting through the boneyard. Tracing it to it's source isn't hard though: Inui and Lance have started up a rather sizeable camp fire from the remains of some of the bones near the vague center of the massive grave. There they've cracked open large stalks from the coral and are roasting the mealy insides over the flames.

They've stockpiled quite a bit and have yet to cook all of it, so anyone and everyone is free to stop by and either help or take up a stalk of their own! Heck, maybe there's already people gathered there!

Whatever the case, it's a good way to kill some time, right? Maybe you've got a ghost story or a survival plan you want to share with the group? No really does anyone have a plan we could really use a plan ]

[ Confusion flickers through his gaze. ]

Do you mean the power went up? Or you could sleep without any issues?

[Hahahahaha Jess hasn't had a peaceful night of sleep since Kilgrave.]

The power went up. A couple of hours had it nearly at full.

[ Hope flickers back in Clark's expression and he smiles. Almost. ]

Then we can lead people through the terrain. Maybe in small groups, with a few powered people in each one.

[The last thing Jess wants is to actually be responsible for other people; helping out in a crisis is one thing, but she doesn't want to get too involved.]

So they'll have someone to blame if we fuck it up.

[ That remark gives him pause, the events that overtook Metropolis - no, the world - still very present in his mind.

Still. Clark finds his answer easily. ]

Better than blaming ourselves by doing nothing.

[ He exhales softly. ]

People will do that, with or without our involvement. They look for heroes and villains. They expect it to be easy to see, like colours on a comic strip.

But I'll take it. So blame me. It is my idea.

[Doing nothing is so easy though, or at least just following the crowd rather than trying to have any sort of input or responsibility. Unlike Kilgrave, this problem isn't Jess's to solve, since there's no guilt driving her.]

No one's gonna mistake me for a hero.

[So that's nice at least.]

You sure you wanna take that on?

[anewhope]

You'd be surprised.

[ And he nods. Superman is dead. Most likely, he thinks dimly, buried somewhere in Smallville. Grief encapsulates him for one dull moment before it passes. ]

I'm used to the bad press.

[sobriquette]

[That earns a scoff.]

What did they get you for?

[The press, people, the entire fucking universe that seems intent on putting people into boxes to make themselves feel better.

They put Jessica in the hero box, for now, but she knows it won't last.]

They didn't get me.

[ He says it quietly and it's telling. Clark can't be trapped or caught after all. The media dissected him and Clark felt lost under its gaze, but he managed. He continued to help.

But Lex Luthor got under Clark's skin and hollowed him out. Clark still isn't sure how or why. ]

That's what bothered them.

[There's bitterness there, but something almost like sympathy, too. Jess doesn't give a shit about the Avengers, but that doesn't mean she can't understand how hard it must be for someone to be in the public spotlight the way they are.]

You do that whole cape and mask shit, don't you?

[ Clark shakes his head. The coral feels fragile under his hands but all things are. ]

I help where I can. The rest isn't up to me.

Get yourself a good lawyer, worked for me.

[By which she means that she isn't in jail for killing a dude.]

[anewhope]

[ His answering smile is wry. ]

I don't think aliens get those in a court of law.

You'd have to ask Thor about that one.

[Because Thor is an alien but also the actual Thor?

It isn't something that Jess has paid any real attention to, mostly because she was had other shit on her mind.]

[anewhope]

[ His brow creases. ]

The . . . Norse God? I didn't think those would wear capes or masks.

He's got a cape.

[No mask, but that doesn't really matter; it's the idea of the thing, superheroes.]

According to the gossip, he's an alien, too.

[anewhope]

[ How does an alien get named Thor? ]

I don't know of any others. I grew up on Earth. I didn't even know I was one until much later.

[sobriquette]

[That's weird, but okay.]

We got a whole invasion, seems like that's what happens when there's superheroes running around.

[anewhope]

[ For a brief moment, Clark recalls Zodd. His expression is pensive. ]

Who invaded?

[sobriquette]

Shit, uh...

[Give her a moment to recall the name, because she really didn't give a shit about the whole thing. All that mattered to her was that Trish was okay.]

Chitauri? Something like that.

[anewhope]

[ His shoulders relax a little. ]

I can't say I've ever heard of them. Or Thor. Sorry.

[sobriquette]

[His reaction doesn't escape her notice, but Jess doesn't feel the need to question it. He's worried about something from his own... version of Earth, or whatever.]

You wanna tell me where you're from?

[She's curious, mostly, but she won't press the issue if he'd rather not share.]

[anewhope]

[ He looks at the fire. Finally he replies. ]

Krypton. You wouldn't have heard of it.

[sobriquette]

[He's right about that, although it doesn't necessarily mean anything. She isn't exactly an astronomer.]

There's a reason you were on Earth.

[It isn't a question, but he can answer it if he wants.]

[anewhope]

[ Clark seems bemused. ]

The same reason anyone else is there. Mine isn't anything special.
